If you're trying to sell your home, increase its value or even just give a couple of rooms a bit of a fresh look, one of the cheapest ways for doing so is to buy some new home ware and other furniture. However this can get expensive if you're doing more than one room. My partner and I wanted to spruce up our house a little just for a change and to hopefully give it a small amount of extra value in the process. Unfortunately our budget doesn't allow us to spend thousands on furniture and other home wares, so we've had to resort to cheaper methods. We actually found that buying these things from matalan.co.uk was actually considerable cheaper than most other online furniture and home ware retailers, and the quality of the products is almost as good. Being part of a household with no children meant that things tend to last longer anyway so it didn't matter if the quality was not quite up to scratch. Plus we had the added bonus of using matalan.co.uk discount codes which we'd found online. Overall we managed to buy quite a lot of stuff to kit out house out, and we spent less than £1,000 - which is pretty good going really.
We started off by giving the master bedroom a nice fresh new look for the Spring. We painted the walls a nice neutral magnolia colour. This may sound boring and practical but we enhanced it with wall decals which we found on an online auction website. Not only does this make our bedroom a little more original than most, but it also means that if we did decide to sell our house it would be very easy to remove the decals and leave the neutral wall colour behind - great for encouraging prospective buyers.

We then purchased a couple of new duvet sets, which we managed to get for a good price on the Matalan website. We purchased a luxury one for a reasonable £25, and then a budget one for £8. That way we have a duvet for when our main one is in the wash - and both are nice and new with fresh and fashionable colours. I also purchased a couple of round throw cushions which were a reasonable £8 each. So for less than £50 we have completely revamped the double bed.
The next step was our tired and messy looking kitchen. I saw on the TV recently that simply having a place for everything in the kitchen appears to increase its size and makes it feel less cluttered as well as more spacious. I thought I'd give this a go and purchased a few containers for the different things that we have floating around the kitchen I got a set of 3 storage canisters for tea, coffee and sugar for just £10. I also purchased a few large glass jars at just £5 each which is ideal for pasta etc. This saves space because then pasta becomes an ornament in the kitchen and can be displayed neatly on the worktop. There is then some extra space in the cupboard for other food. I will also be building a small shelf to put the spices on at the weekend, so I'll post some information on how that goes.
